What It Means to Live a Spirit-Led Life
Living a Spirit-led life isn’t about being overly deep or having all the right Christian phrases. It’s about daily surrender—learning to quiet the noise of the world so you can hear the whispers of God.
In a world that constantly tells us to “trust ourselves” or “just do what feels right,” being led by the Spirit requires something different: trust in Someone greater.
Whether you're navigating motherhood, healing, purpose, or simply craving more intimacy with God, this post will meet you where you are and guide you toward a deeper understanding of what it really means to be Spirit-led.
My Personal Story: From Decision Paralysis to Spirit-Led Living
I’ve always been a deeply intuitive person. As a young girl, I could feel things deeply, but I never had the tools to manage or process those emotions. That emotional overwhelm carried into adulthood—and it didn’t stop there.
What I didn’t realize for years was that I also struggled with decision paralysis. I never liked making decisions—not even small ones. And over time, I came to understand that this was a trauma response.
I was raised in an environment where asking for permission was expected for just about everything. There wasn’t much room for practicing discernment or confidence in my own voice. So when I became an adult, having to make choices for myself felt terrifying. I didn’t trust myself to know what was right.
That’s when YouTube University became my go-to. Any time I had to make a decision, my mind would instantly search for a video I’d watched or advice from a stranger on social media. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was outsourcing my inner authority because I didn’t trust myself—or God—to lead me.
It wasn’t until I began doing monthly 3-day fasts that everything started to shift. During those fasts, I intentionally shut out the noise and leaned into God’s Word. For the first time, I wasn’t relying on everyone else’s opinions. I was learning how to think—and more importantly, how to discern—through Scripture.
I found myself measuring life through the lens of what God said, not what someone online thought.
This is when Matthew 6:33 came alive for me:
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
I’d heard it a million times growing up—but I never really knew what it meant. Until I noticed I was finally doing it: seeking God first, not Google. Seeking His truth before all the outside noise. That was the beginning of my Spirit-led journey.
(More on my monthly fasts in a future post.)
So What Does It Really Mean to Be Spirit-Led?
Romans 8:14 tells us:
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”
Being Spirit-led is about inviting God into the everyday—not just the major life choices, but the moments that seem small too.
It looks like:
Asking God what He thinks before you ask your group chat.
Letting Scripture anchor your decisions instead of scrolling for opinions.
Cultivating peace even when clarity doesn’t come immediately.
It’s a posture of trust. Not perfection.
